Embassy Supports Strengthening Military Laboratory Management

On June 3, 2014, with the support of the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation, Department of Defense – President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (ODC/DoD PEPFAR), the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense, Military Medical Department (MoD/MMD) organized the first workshop on strengthening military laboratory management towards accreditation. Thirty two military Vietnamese medical staff from 22 key military hospitals and preventive medicine centers attended the three-day workshop in Hanoi, led by specialists from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) and National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE). The program supports the goals of advancing bilateral defense cooperation between the U.S. and Vietnam, reaffirmed in the Joint Statement by President Barack Obama and President Truong Tan Sang in July 2013.
