Embassy Hanoi welcomed guests to the official reopening of the high-tech American Center on Monday morning, April 14, 2014. A seven-month renovation resulted in the complete transformation of the American Center, which now includes cutting-edge technology, wall and table maps of the United States, an English Language Lab, a mini-museum of Americana items, and a brightened environment with a red, white, and blue theme.
“We believe that this new, state-of-the-art American Center will be at the heart of creating and sustaining stronger people-to-people ties between the U.S. and Vietnam for years to come,” said Ambassador David Shear during the opening ceremony. Ambassador Shear put the new technology to use by performing a “digital” ribbon cutting ceremony.
American musicians David C. Murray and Georges Taino then turned up the music and treated the audience to a live music concert. Guests at the opening ceremony received a free “American Center Re-launch” t-shirt and group photos from the event were uploaded instantly to the Embassy Facebook page and Flickr site.
The new American Center will host special speaker events throughout the week on “U.S. Exchange Programs,” “American Innovation,” and “Beyond the Classroom – Student Life at a U.S. University.” For details on all the upcoming events, please visit the Embassy website, Embassy Facebook page, or register here.
The American Center, sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, is a one-stop source of up-to-date information about all aspects of the United States, its people, and its policies. The American Center maintains a robust book circulation and electronic media collection, with over 4,000 book titles and 500 CD/DVDs available. The American Center is open to the general public free of charge and welcomes visits by government officials, academics, journalists, students, and others interested in information about the United States or accessing our free, online database eLibraryUSA..
