Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Have Established Multiple Checkpoints to Screen Those Entering and Exiting the Cities
Update on COVID-19 Checkpoints and Testing in Ho Chi Minh City (April 10, 2020)
Location: Vietnam
This is a daily update from the U.S. Embassy Hanoi and U.S. Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City to assist U.S. citizens in remaining informed during the evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Vietnam.
Daily COVID-19 Numbers:
As of April 10, Vietnam has reported 255 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within its borders since the virus first became known. To date, 144 people have recovered and have been released from the hospital.
Important Information for U.S. Citizens:
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have established multiple checkpoints to screen those entering and exiting the cities. Passengers using means of transportation currently banned per the recent Government of Vietnam directive will not be allowed through; those with high temperatures will be sent to centralized quarantine. Other cities and provinces may also take similar measures without prior notice. The Vietnamese government recommends that residents and visitors not travel to other cities or provinces except when absolutely necessary.
Additionally, Vietnamese media report that, starting April 9, all visitors arriving in Ho Chi Minh City will be tested for COVID-19. Testing will reportedly occur at the city’s airport, train, and bus stations, and will even be administered for those arriving by private vehicle. Test results should be available in about 15 minutes, with those testing positive subject to more comprehensive testing. As of April 10, this information has only been reported in the media, and has yet to be corroborated by an official Vietnamese government announcement.
We recommend U.S. citizens check the Embassy’s COVID-19 page daily for information, and register or update their information in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
