The Embassy commemorated the 27th World AIDS Day with numerous events focused on HIV/AIDS awareness. On November 30, PEPFAR Vietnam, GVN officials, and members of the international community participated in a GVN-sponsored event and march in honor of World AIDS Day. Additionally, PEPFAR Vietnam, in collaboration with the Vietnam National Drama Theater, presented “Three in One,” a cultural performance about three main characters – a man who injects drugs, a female sex worker, and a gay man – who meet and share their stories. Charge d’affaires Claire Pierangelo gave opening remarks.

On December 1, Embassy Hanoi led two main events at its American Center. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration led the first event, an interactive role-play session that explored living with HIV/AIDS. In this session, participants actively developed, discussed, and considered strategies for reducing the stigma and discrimination often encountered when living with HIV/AIDS. The second event included a screening of the 2010 video “People Living with Stories,” about Vietnamese individuals with HIV+ status, followed by a panel discussion with two of the videos’ participants and moderated by Dr. Thuan Nguyen, Director of Safe Living and Founder/Director of the Chamber of LGBT Inclusive.
