On October 22, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Mark Lambert joined Boeing officials at a ceremony commemorating the completion of a new manufacturing plant in Hanoi that will produce passenger doors for the aviation company’s wide-body Boeing 777. The facility, a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd, is simultaneously celebrating the shipment of its 1,000th inboard flap, which is used in the Boeing 737. “Today’s event is a great example of Vietnam’s growing importance in the global supply chain,” stated Lambert. “A complex engineered aviation component, stamped with the words “Made in Vietnam”, is being manufactured by a Japanese firm and exported to Seattle for use in an American-made plane that could ultimately be used by a foreign carrier – perhaps even Vietnam Airlines!” Lambert added that this program helps to further our bilateral commercial ties under the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership.
The U.S. Embassy has worked with Boeing on several commercial projects, including a U.S.-Vietnam Aviation Cooperation Working Group seminar held in cooperation with the Embassy’s Commercial Service. Boeing also joined the U.S. Trade and Development Agency in providing support to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam in complying with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s legal and bilateral safety and oversight regulatory requirements.
